Conservative Manifesto for the
Forest of Dean District Council Elections 2011
Since taking control in 2007, for the first time in the history of the Forest of Dean District Council, much has been achieved by the Conservative Administration.
For many years the performance of the Council was classified as ‘poor’ by the Independent Audit Commission. Conservatives have turned this around by giving value for money and improving efficiency in all areas of Council business and the Audit Commission has given us a clean bill of health. We have also saved residents from rising costs of Council Tax whilst maintaining frontline services and reduced the net cost of Council Services by £3.7m (26%) over the last five years. Under our Leadership, we are the only district in Gloucestershire to successfully bid and receive £2.6m funding from Europe for the benefit of our Community.
A Conservative led Council will
Freeze Council Tax for the next 4 years
- Fight to protect the special privileges of our Forest heritage
- Welcome the restructuring of policing in the County. For the Forest this means more Bobbies on the beat
- Preserve our Street Warden Service
- Fight to safeguard Health Services in the Forest of Dean
- Campaign to continue the rollout of High Speed broadband in the Forest
- Continue to strive to improve our economy with the creation of jobs and housing
- Increase waste recycling rates to 60% and increase the income received for recycled materials
- Continue with our Green Agenda
- Continue to work to form a Joint Waste Partnership in the interests of cost savings
Continue pressing urgently for better transport links
A Conservative led Council will give you value for money, and only we can guarantee a freeze on Council Tax, unlike our opponents who recently voted for an increase in Councillors’ allowances.
